Duncan Brown

Duncan Brown leads Emsi’s UK consulting and product innovation, developing new insights on people and place for Emsi and our customers by drawing on his skills in economics and data. He joined Emsi in 2016 after working at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), where he worked on research around labour market projections, STEM skills, and productivity, authoring an overview of the labour market, Growth through people: evidence and analysis. Before that he spent over a decade at CFE Research, consulting on education and skills policy. Duncan was lead economic analyst for Sir Charlie Mayfield’s work looking at ways to increase productivity, How good is your business really? Duncan holds two degrees in Economics and is a member of the Society of Professional Economists.

  • Encouraging on-going and meaningful dialogue around skills policy between enterprise, education providers and government
  • Understanding the impact of traineeships, adult re- and upskilling, new technology and the delivery of T-levels on employers
  • Reducing government bureaucracy and ensuring that there is enough flexibility in the skills and employment system
  • Reviewing the impact of apprenticeships on micro businesses and SMES’s and best practice for balancing the off the job training requirement for apprentices
